The Derwent Valley Economic Renewal Group Inc, also known as Valley Vision, is a broad-based, incorporated not for profit community group based on one simple and powerful idea...the community taking control of it's own future. Valley Vision is funded by the Derwent Valley Council and aims to provide a community forum to initiate, coordinate and support economic and social renewal in the Valley. Valley Vision was formed in 1999 with the common belief that with some local action we can create a better future for all that will enable our young people to remain and prosper in the Valley, when the community works together. Our vision is to see the Derwent Valley stand as a dynamic and prosperous region at the economic and cultural heart of a progressive Tasmania. Our objective is to enable the people of the Derwent Valley region to fully realise their potential. Our objective will be achieved by pursuing two strategies:
The Board of Management coordinates Valley Vision, but it is the community that really drives the organisation, not individuals or local government. Valley Vision has 10 committee members, two community representatives; Sandy Carmichael and Robert Walker who is Chairman. In addition there are two representatives nominated by the Derwent Valley Council (Councilor Judy Bromfield and Councilor James Elliott), one representative from the Education Cluster (Principal Anker Fuglsang), Rivers Run Tourism Association (Helen McDiarmid), Youth (Tamara Marshall, D'FAT), Derwent Valley Regional Arts (Sharon Hutchison), the business sector (Nicola Sherman) and public safety (Sgt Brett Adlard). |
